Here is a brief update on what has been a very exciting few weeks in the club…..
Munster Senior Open
The Munster Senior Open was held in the club in June with nearly 500 participants competing in 29 events. Well done to all our players who took part and congratulations to our finalists and winners!
I would like to express my sincerest thanks to Claire Fennell, our Tournament Director, Ger Flynn, Niall O’Keeffe and Elaine Merry and to the over 50 club members who contributed their time to help ensure the smooth running of the event.
I also want to thank Vice Captain, Adrienne O’Donovan and the Tennis Committee for all of their support and efforts during the competition.
Summer Cup
Best of luck to the 10 teams who will participate in this year’s Summer Cup. The first round of matches is due to be played on July 17th. Team captains have been given the details of their teams, and we have also organised a coaching session for all grades on Wednesday, 13th July.
Junior Tennis
Munster Junior Open – 2nd – 9th July
I would like to express my sincerest thanks to our title Sponsor, Ciaran O’Connor of O’Connor Pharmacy for sponsoring the Munster Junior Open. Without this valuable sponsorship, the tournament would not have been the success it was.
There were over 200 participants in 40 events. I would like to thank Claire Fennell and Marie Duffy, Tournament Directors, and Ger Flynn, Tournament Referee, along with her team Johnny O’Mahony, Mags Kelleher and Kevin McCarthy.
A special thank you to Ciara Fry, Chair of the Junior Committee, who played a central role in the organisation of this event, to the Junior Tennis Committee and the team of volunteers who contributed time to help in the office, referee and umpire matches.
A huge thank you to all of the junior players who participated in this year’s tournament. Thank you for providing us with such fabulous tennis over the course of the week.
