Well done to all on the Social Committee who recently organised a Gin and Craft Beer Tasting Evening. The evening was a big success with over 70 people attending. A huge thank you must also go to Ballyvolane House Spirits and Rising Sons Brewery for sponsoring the occasion. Money raised will be given to Alzheimer charities and we will confirm the exact amount raised and which charities it was given to in the upcoming days. The first round 1 of the new Super Seniors American Tournament took place on September 11th. The event is a new event which was organised by Vice Captain Donal Johnson and a subcommittee. The event is due to take place every second Tuesday of the month at 10:15-12:00. It consists of short competitive tennis games followed by morning coffee. Well done to Donal Johnson, Stuart Ahern, Niall O’Sullivan and Chris McCusker who reached the Summer Cup Finals in Nenagh on September 8th. Unfortunately, they were beaten 3-1 by a very strong Larkspur team in the finals but there is no doubt they did amazingly well to get to the finals and have done the club very proud.

In conjunction with Wimbledon’s mens’ finals day, the social committee organised a Wimbledon Tea Party. The tennis was old style with some superb traditional outfits and the tea and cakes were delicious! The Davy Munster Junior Open was held last week and it was another busy week with over 260 kids taking part in 38 events! The 2017 Club championships finished on an exciting black ball finish with Diarmuid Hurley beating Kevin Kiely by 2 frames to 1 to take the Singles title.
As many of you know the Munster Senior Open was held at the beginning of June. It was a busy week with 30 events, 484 players, 401 matches but it all went very smoothly! Well done to all our players who took part and congratulations to our finalists and winners. The finals of the ladder cup took place on April 21st. The finals were followed by a dinner, which as always was very enjoyable and well attended.
Sunday’s Well hosted another successful Munster Vets Open between from Friday 13th April – Sunday 15th April. The winners are listed on tournament software and there several photos of the event available on the Sunday’s Well Facebook page.
Well done to Abby Hayes’s Grade 1 team made up of Abby, Sean and Fiona O’Callaghan and Mick Hurley, who won the winter league finals held in Limerick Lawn recently. What a Squash Irish Open we had this weekend. John Rooney former Irish Professional player from Galway won the men’s over 35 beating defending champion Keith Moran from Sligo, both pictured below. Neal Murphy from Nass successfully defended his over 40 title beating Dara O’Flynn from Fitzwilliam in Dublin 3-1 in the final. Well done to Sundays Well for hosting this prestigious Tournament and to Johnny Hurley as Tournament Director.
