In conjunction with Wimbledon’s mens’ finals day, the social committee organised a Wimbledon Tea Party. The tennis was old style with some superb traditional outfits and the tea and cakes were delicious! The Davy Munster Junior Open was held last week and it was another busy week with over 260 kids taking part in 38 events! As many of you know the Munster Senior Open was held at the beginning of June. It was a busy week with 30 events, 484 players, 401 matches but it all went very smoothly! Well done to all our players who took part and congratulations to our finalists and winners. The finals of the ladder cup took place on April 21st. The finals were followed by a dinner, which as always was very enjoyable and well attended.
Sunday’s Well hosted another successful Munster Vets Open between from Friday 13th April – Sunday 15th April. The winners are listed on tournament software and there several photos of the event available on the Sunday’s Well Facebook page.
Well done to Abby Hayes’s Grade 1 team made up of Abby, Sean and Fiona O’Callaghan and Mick Hurley, who won the winter league finals held in Limerick Lawn recently. Also well done to Eileen Daly’s Grade 4 team who also reached the final and put up a tough fight against a very strong Nenagh team. A very big thank you to the supporters who travelled to Limerick.
The junior tennis information night that was held at the beginning of January was very well attended. We had over 40 parents attend on the night and it was great to see such enthusiasm. The evening gave an overview of the club’s junior tennis offerings, the agenda covered items such as who is who in Junior tennis, what activities are available and how to join, how parents can get involved. The annual Christmas tournament was oversubscribed this year, we had 36 people taking part in the fun mixed doubles event, which was followed by some mulled wine and mince pies. Well done to Debbie Dunlea and Deirdre Swinburne who were tied first for the ladies with 19 points each and to Derry MacCarthy who won the event overall with an excellent 21 points.
The annual ladies Christmas lunch took place on December 8th, approximately 50 members attended to celebrate the festive season. A delicious lunch was provided by Brook Inn and a presentation was made to Greg Morris as a thank you for all his work during the year. Below are some of the photos from the day.
The American Tournament which ran monthly from April – October was again a big success, we had 82 people take part over the 6 months and every month bar one was fully booked. The finals of the American Tournament took place on October 27th, Joe O’Mahony and Alex Daly were the overall winners. The tournament was backed with sponsorship from Cantor Fitzgerald and Human+Kind and the good news is that Human+Kind have already agreed to sponsor it again next year.
Congratulations to Marie Duffy and Anne McCarthy who were recently selected to represent Ireland at the World Supersenior Championships in Miami. A fundraiser was held in the club for their trip and it proved to be a very popular night.
Insight Senior Close week took place between 24th-30th September 2017. Approximately, 90 members took part in 13 events over the 5 day period. The weather was testing at times during the week cause some matches to be rescheduled but the week finished on Saturday despite the changes. Winners and runners-up were given Club gear as prizes for the first time.
