1. Spring League – Final

Hard luck to our Grade 1,2,3, team captained by Karen Barry who were narrowly beaten by Crosshaven in the final of the Spring League in Ballinlough. Well done to the team and subs for getting all the way to the final.

2. Summer Cup

Summer Cup started last weekend, we have entered nine teams, good luck to you all.

The event can be seen here on Tournament Software. The finals of the Summer Cup will be held in Sunday’s Well in September on the 1st and the 7th.

3. Social Tennis

Social tennis will continue as normal every Friday from 7:15-9:00 for the following dates – 12 July, 19 July, 26 July, 2 August, and 16 August.

4. 125 Event – Sunday’s Well Invitational


On Friday and Saturday, June 21st and June 22nd an Invitational Event took place in the Club. A team of four from Sunday’s Well, Greystones, Kilkenny, Belfast Boat Club, Rushbrooke, St Annes, Carrikmines, and Galway Lawn participated.
Thank you to Donal Johnson, Ron O’Mahoney, and Mary Donnelly for organising a great event which the visiting clubs super well received. Here are the results from the weekend.

  • Ladies Mockler Cup
    • Winners: Belfast Boat Club, Finalists: Sundays Well

5. 125 Event – Vintage Tennis Day & Wimbledon Tea Party


This coming Saturday, starting at 12, we are hosting a Vintage Tennis Day & Wimbledon Tea Party. Please do your best to dress up on the day we would love to see everyone in vintage all-white attire. There will also be a live performance by the Cork Butter Exchange Band.

6. Senior Interpros – Come Support Munster


The Senior Interpros are being held in the club on Friday, August 8th and Saturday, August 9th. The Interpros is a competition between Munster, Ulster, Connacht, and Leinster.
This is arguably the highest standard of tennis in Ireland and will likely feature some of the Irish Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup players.

It promises to be a great tennis weekend and is well worth coming to watch.

7. Argideen Vale Visit  

On Sunday, August 25th the club is organising a visit to Argideen Vale, in Timoleague to play on the grass courts. Thank you to Noel Lucey for organising and to the Argideen members (many of whom are also members of Sunday’s Well) for allowing us to visit and play on your grass courts.

8. Senior Close Championship 
 
Just to give you all as much notice as possible our annual Close Championship will take place Sunday, September 8th to Friday, September 13th. Thank you to David Carroll and Induchem for once again sponsoring this event.

The Senior Close is the Club’s annual internal close championship. Members can pick their own partners, the grades are split into 3 different groups all of which (depending on entry numbers) will have singles, doubles, and mixed draws.

  • Grade 1,2,3
  • Grade 4,5
  • Grade 6

9. Mary Collins Charity Day

Once again giving advanced notice, the Mary Collins charity day will be held in the Club on Saturday, August 24th. This is an annual charity ladies’ event open to clubs in Cork City. This year’s event will be once again kindly sponsored by Alive Coaching. Thank you to Laia Raigal and Noelle Twomey for running this event.

10. Members Achieving New Grades

Congratulations to the following members who have successfully been upgraded to the following new grades over the last month.

  • Tara McSweeney – Grade 3
  • Marc Smith – Grade 3
  • Elaine Walsh – Grade 5

11. Junior Tennis Report


Munster Junior Open – Our Junior Open was held June 29th – July 6th. The event was a huge success and attracted over 250 entries. Thank you to Marie Duffy, Ger Flynn, our Junior Tennis Committee, and the many dozens of volunteers who helped across the week.

Thank you to David, the office staff, the bar staff, Liam and Bernie in Brook for their great work over the tournament.
