We had a lot going on in the club in recent weeks and the following is a brief update on the happenings….
Munster Veterans Open: 25th – 27th March
The Munster Veterans’ Open will be held in Sunday’s Well Boating & Tennis Club from Friday, 25th March until Sunday, 27th March. Entry is now open for all over the age of 30. You can sign up here.
Winter League (External) – Phase II
Phase II of the Winter League commenced on the 6th of February 2022. Sunday’s Well is off to a great start with 9 teams heading into the knockout rounds. We wish them all the very best of luck. You can keep up-to-date with all the latest matches and results on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Fionnuala Quigley Internal Winter League
The Internal Winter League commenced on Saturday, the 5th of March in perfect conditions for tennis. It will run for 6 weeks, with the final being placed on Saturday, the 23rd April 2022.
Civil Service Cup
Douglas Lawn Tennis Club will hold the Civil Service Cup on Sunday, 3rd April 2022 from 10.30am to 4pm in Douglas Lawn Tennis Club. The Civil Service Cup is one of the longest-running inter-club competitions in Munster and recently has been run as a one-day tournament, Grade 3 mixed event. Each team consists of 2 men and 2 ladies per team, playing Ladies and Men’s Doubles.

Table Quiz
The social committee held a Table Quiz on Thursday, the 3rd of March at 8pm. It was a huge success and raised €500 for the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
Social Tennis | Fridays @7.15pm – 9pm
A reminder that Social Tennis will not be held on Friday, the 18th of March, and Friday, the 25th of March.
Junior Tennis
I would like to welcome Ciara Fry who will be taking on the role of Chairperson of the Junior Tennis Committee.
Fun Easter Egg Tournament: Wednesday, the 13th April
This is open to all Junior players from Under 8 to Under 16 (the players must be able to rally comfortably). The cost of this is €5 to cover the cost of the Easter Eggs. You can sign your child up here.
Pet Essentials U12
Well done to our two U12 teams (Eoin MacEneaney, Charlie Kaar, Lily O’Donoghue and Eloise Walsh, Matthew Linehan, Killian Twomey, Suzie Davis and Victoria Bogue) who have reached the semi-final of the plate competition.
KBS Team
Congratulations also to our KBS Team (Danny Kennedy, Robert Walsh, Johanna Foskin and Ella Tiernan) who are playing in the plate final in Carrigaline on the 3rd of April 2022.
MCAL Team
Well done to our MCAL team (Harry O’Donoghue, James O’Regan, Lily Foskin and Grace Kelleher) who played at home on Sunday, the 6th March in the quarter-final and were narrowly defeated.
Tournament Directors Needed for Junior Competitions
Munster Tennis is looking forward to increasing the tennis competitions for Junior players. To that end, they require a pool of Tournament Directors to manage the administration and operation of the competitions at the weekends. We are inviting expressions of interest for Tournament Directors for Cork City.
If you are interested in a position as Tournament Director, Munster Tennis will provide training and payment for same. Please direct all expressions of interest to Triona Buckley in Munster Tennis at admin@munstertennis.ie before the 25th March 2022.
Climb with Charlie
Note: this is not a club event, but we have been asked to flag it as we have a number of members involved in the organisation of the event and it is a very deserving cause.
International Mountaineer, Pat Falvey will lead a guided hike up Cnoc na Bhraca and Strickeen mountains on April 2nd. These are two of the more manageable peaks in the Kerry Mountains. Meeting place is Kate Kearney’s Cottage at 9.30am on Saturday, April 2nd. The hike will take 4/5 hours. A €40 donation for the walk will all go to Motor Neurone and Pieta House as all the expenses of the day have been kindly sponsored. If you are interested, please let Marie Duffy know at 087 9964399, places are limited, there are currently 10 places left.
