Happy New Year to you all. Hope you had a lovely break and are looking forward to plenty tennis in 2024.It is a very big year for the Club, celebrating our 125. It is shaping up to be a fantastic year for the Club.
Christmas Cracker
This year ended with the Christmas Cracker on December 28th. Fifty members shook off the Christmas festivities with a great afternoon of tennis. Thanks to Georgina Daly & Colette Mc Grath for their help in running this event and for all of you who played and generously brought their unloved gifts and spot prizes – plenty winners on the day.
Social Tennis for Members | Friday January 26th @7.15 pm – 9.15pm
Social tennis has already got off to a good start in 2024. It will continue on Friday Jan 26th, from 7.15pm to 9.15pm. There is a €5 entry fee to play, followed by pizza. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet new and existing members. All grades are welcome to attend. American Tournament – Friday January 19th @ 7.15pm
Round two of the American Tournament will be held on Friday Jan 19th. Round 2 is already fully subscribed and an email reminder has been sent to all signed up players. Round 3 of the American Tournament will take place on Friday Feb 16th and a sign-up sheet will be sent out closer to the date, once Round 2 is completed.
Emma’s Serve & Slice – Saturday Feb 3rd
Emma’s Serve & Slice event, in memory of Emma Crowley is in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research. Members and non-members are welcome to play tennis or just attend the coffee part of the afternoon. The event will consist of a mixed doubles event (partners will be assigned) between 12pm and 4pm, followed by coffee, cakes at 4pm. Price of entry for the tennis is €20, places are limited. The coffee is free, but we would encourage donations, and ask people to sign up if they can (just so that we have an idea of numbers). Winter League Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Winter League is now in the final stages. The Club has three teams who have secured a place in the finals: – Aylmer’s Grade 1 men, Marie’s Grade 2 ladies and Stephanie’s Grade 2 ladies – so Grade 2 ladies will be an all Sunday’s Well event! We have four more teams competing in semi-finals next weekend: – Susie’s Grade 1 ladies, Lyn’s Grade 3 ladies, Lauren’s Grade 4 ladies and Karen’s Grade 5 ladies who are all battling for a place in the finals on January 28th in St Anne’s TC Waterford.
Congratulations to all teams who have reached this stage – a great achievement. Not forgetting those who represented their Club in the earlier stages of the League, including Niall’s Grade 2 men who lost out in a tough semi-final to St Ann’s last Sunday.
All support most welcome for these exciting semi-finals and the finals day on the 28th of January in St Anne’s TC Waterford.
Winter League Phase II
Best of luck to the six Teams who will participate in this year’s Phase II of the Winter League. The first round of matches will take place in early February. The teams can be viewed at the link below.

Fionnuala Quigley Internal Winter League
The 2024 Fionnuala Quigley Internal Winter League will commence on Saturday, 24th February with the final taking place on Saturday, 20th April. There will be four round robin matches and a ¾ playoff and finals. The matches will be played on a Saturday evening at 5pm. The final format will depend on the numbers participating.
The closing date for entry is Friday 9th February.
This is a fun doubles team event open to all levels and is a great way to meet other members. The entry fee is €15 payable on commencement of your first match. You can also sign up as a sub if you do not want to commit to the full event.

Table Quiz
The annual charity table quiz will take place on Thursday February 22nd @8pm, with MC John Coulter. A team of 4 will cost €40. So plenty time to start prepping. Sign up will be sent out shortly by the Social Committee.
Munster Veterans’ Open
The Munster Veterans’ Open will be held in Sunday’s Well Boating & Tennis Club Friday, 22nd – Sunday, 24th March 2024.
