Social Tennis for Members | Friday December 15th @7.15 pm – 9.15pm
The final social tennis night for 2023 will be on Friday December 15th from 7.15pm – 9.15pm. There is a €5 entry fee to play, followed by pizza. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet new and existing members. All grades are welcome to attend.
Social Tennis for 2024 will recommence on Friday January 5th. Maybe a nice habit for the New Year!
Carols By Candlelight – Sunday December 17th @ 5 – 7 pm
You are invited to “Carols by Candlelight” at the Club. The evening will be hosted by Con Clifford. Carols will be accompanied by mince pies with freshly whipped cream and mulled wine. A €5 entry charge will apply. Sign-up at this link and begin the Christmas festivities at your club.
American Tournament – Friday January 19th, 2024
Unfortunately, the second round of the American Tournament had to be cancelled at short notice, due to frozen courts. Round two will now be held on Friday Jan 19th, with round three being moved out to Friday Feb 16th. First refusal for Round 2 will be given to those who were already signed up.
Sign-up sheets for Friday 19th January and Friday Feb 16th will be sent out closer to the respective dates.
Christmas Cracker – Thursday December 28th, 2023
The Christmas Cracker event will take place on Thursday, 28th December from 12 noon to 3pm. There is an entry fee of €5 cash payable on the day. This is a mixed doubles tournament which will follow the format of an American Tournament. There will be mulled wine, mince pies and spot prizes on the day. This year we are asking players to kindly bring along an unloved gift or spot prize, to add to the festivities.
Winter League Phase 1
Phase 1 of the Winter League has now reached the knock-out, business end of the League. The Club has eight teams still in contention for the finals on January 28th in St Anne’s TC Waterford, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 5.
There will be some great matches to watch on Sundays in January 2024, so do come down to support our Teams if you can. Details will be posted on social media. Congratulations to all Teams who have reached this stage and to those who represented their Club in the earlier stages of the League.
Emma Crowley Memorial Tournament – Sat Feb 3rd, 2024
A mixed doubles charity tennis tournament will be held on Saturday February 3rd 2024. It will be open to all grades, and in true Emma style will be a fun event, followed by cake! Proceeds will be donated to Breakthrough Cancer. I have no doubt that this event will attract strong interest in memory of our lovely Emma, so please note the date in your diary and details will follow in due course. This event is being run by Claire Fennell, Dara Carberry and other of Emma’s closest friends in the Club.
Junior Tennis
Munster Cup
Congratulations to the U18 Team who won the Munster Cup, beating Ennis in the finals at Larkspur Tennis Club on November 19th last.
Equally congratulations to the U14 Team who won the plate finals of the Munster Junior Cup U 14 beating Nenagh.
Congratulations to all those who played on these teams throughout the Tournament. The results were due to the performance and commitment of the full squad. Good luck to our U12 and U14 teams who are currently competing in the Carrigaline Cup.
Santa Visit to Sunday’s Well
A big thank you to Ciara Fry, Dermot Carberry and all of the Junior Committee who delivered a fantastic day for Santa’s visit to Sundays Well. Fifty-two families, including over 110 children got to meet Santa in his spectacular grotto, after participating in several festive events enroute. It was undoubtedly a highlight of the social calendar in Sunday’s Well.
