2. Munster Junior Open

Our Junior Open ran from Saturday 28th June to Saturday 5th July and what a super event! Three tournaments in one week! T200, T500 & T1000! Over 260 players played in 36 events; singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

Huge thanks to our generous sponsors, Fitzgeralds Family Bakery, Davy and Court Care. Your commitment to this event is very much appreciated.

An event like this requires a lot of work and preparation before the event even begins, and then there is the work during and after the competition! HUGE thanks to our Tournament Director Marie Duffy and Tournament Referee Ger Flynn for the trojan work they put in to make this tournament the special occasion it was ….to quote Ger, a ‘Festival of Tennis’! Thanks to the army of members who volunteered over the week, checking in players, taking scores, inputting scores, putting the juniors on court, putting up and taking down single sticks, off court referees, umpires, chair umpires on finals day and especially to the Junior Committee. If I have forgotten anyone, my sincere apologies. Thanks also to the bakers who made the annual Afternoon Tea such a success on Saturday and to all the bakers who took part in the Bake Off. Congratulations to Tom Hourihan the Star Baker for his ‘whalley’ good cake! Check out Instagram and/or Facebook to be amazed by the entries.

Thanks to Liam and Bernie for the delicious food served during the week.

Thanks to Jackie, David and all the bar staff who worked tirelessly during the week to make sure the visiting players were made to feel welcome.

Thanks to Dave, Audrey and Elmar in the office for all the admin work they did in the background to make the event the success it was.

Despite great tennis, both our teams fell at the quarter final stage. Thank you to all who played and especially to captains Catherine O’ Riordan and Emily O’Donoghue.
