1. Social Tennis
Social tennis is ongoing most Fridays! It is great to see twenty plus members (both old and new) signing up and playing each Friday. A huge thanks to the Tennis Committee members for keeping it going. Do consider coming in and encouraging your friends also, it’s a lovely social evening where you might meet some members you haven’t seen in a while or haven’t met before. All grades are welcome to attend, €5 for tennis and pizza! Super value!! This is the sign up link
Alternatively, you can sign up using the link on the club website or you can use the QR code on the Social Tennis poster on the main notice board in the clubhouse. There is a tennis committee member on site every Friday to run the event.
The next dates are;
November 14th
November 21st
November 28th
2. Santa Meet and Greet
The sign up for the Santa Meet and Greet went out last Monday and it was fully sold out in less than 6 hours…Taylor Swift beware! Apologies to all of you who didn’t get in this year. Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves are preparing themselves for the long day! A huge thank you to the newly formed ‘Santa Meet and Greet Organising Group’ for all the effort and enthusiasm you are putting into coordinating this very special event in the club’s calendar. An extra special thank you to the Junior Tennis Committee who for years ran this huge event alongside all the other Junior Tennis Events in the club.
3. Tennis Munster Winter League Phase 1
The Winter League is up and running..all our teams have now played at least twice and so far our teams are doing really well. There is some super tennis being played. A bit of encouragement is always welcome, so if you are free any weekend please come into the club to support our home based teams. All the information about the matches will be on our social media the Friday/Saturday of the weekend the matches are happening. Tomorrow, Sunday 9th November our ladies Grade 5 and our mens Grades 3 & 5 will be playing at home and our ladies Grade 3 will be playing away in Lower Aghada.
4. Tennis Munster Winter League Phase 2
The sign up for Winter League Phase 2 will be going out during the week as the entry date is November 25th. The first round matches will be the weekend of the 11th of January 2026 with finals in early May. Please keep your eyes open for the sign up email. Phase 2 is a mixed event, so you will play a doubles and a mixed doubles match.
5. American tournaments
The American Tournaments are proving very popular, as always! Last night’s tournament was a great success both tennis wise and weatherwise! The ladies section had two winners Triona Fitzgerald and Sinead Rogers. The men’s section was won by Denis O’Neill and the runner up was Ron O’Mahoney. Congrats to you all! Huge thanks to Anne Keane and Karen Kenneally for running these events. The dates for the next tournaments are December 6th and January 16th. Again, please keep your eyes out for the sign up emails.
6. Christmas Cracker 2025
Our annual Tennis Christmas Cracker will take place on Sunday 28th of December. The sign up will go out early December. On the day please bring an unwanted Christmas gift (ideally wrapped!). Players will take turns to take a prize from this mountain of gifts! So no one goes home empty handed!
7. New Members Night
We held a New Members Night on Thursday 16th of October at 7.30pm where we presented a short slideshow on topics such as; how to join a committee, how to enter Open Tournaments, what is Winter league, what else goes on in the club etc. It was lovely to meet all of you who attended and for those of you who couldn’t make the night the slideshow will be on the club website soon.
8. Tennis Ireland Course: Court Supervising & Off-Court Umpiring
Tennis Ireland have announced details of a free Online Training Course, this course is designed to equip volunteers with the knowledge, confidence and credentials to help with club tournaments. The course is designed in a way that allows you to complete the modules at your own pace and a certificate of completion is generated on completion. I would encourage anyone with interest to sign up.
9. Junior Tennis Update
Our U12 and U14 teams are currently competing in the Carrigaline Cup. The best of luck to all on the team!
Our U11 Green Ball team has reached the semi-finals of the Regional League, congrats and best of luck in the semis!
Junior matchplays are also back, these give everyone more opportunities to compete and develop their game.
Squads Term 2 sign ups are expected to be open very soon.
9. AOB
Following on from last month, the club Whatsapp group is now up and running. A quick recap on what this is and the reasons behind its establishment; the goal is to make communication from the club easier and quicker. It will be useful for small updates, for example; social tennis reminders, court closure, courts frozen, weather warnings etc. This group will not allow responses and the messages will only come from two sources, the club office and the tennis captain. This Whatsapp group is named Sunday’s Well Tennis Club Updates. The sign up email went out on Thursday the 6th, this is an ‘opt in’ group so if you want to be in the group please click the link in the email. Email will remain the main method of communication within the club, this Whatsapp is only to supplement email and not to take over from it.
Have a great month of tennis!
