Another great weekend with the Squash Irish Open over 35/40 hosted in the club. Well done to all players with some fantastic games on show. Following some pretty tough weather conditions which resulted in 3 out of 4 semis being postponed for a week, all 4 semifinals have now been played. Donal’s G3 team and Mag’s Grade 5 team have now qualified for the Winter League Finals which are due to be held March 24th in Limerick Lawn. Unfortunately, Sunday’ Well had a tough weekend for the quarters with 4 teams being knocked out. On February 15th a table quiz was held in the club, the proceeds of the quiz will go to the Simon Community. The table quiz was well attended and was won by Joe O’Mahony’s team. A huge thank you to the Social Committee for their organisation and John Coulter who was an excellent quizmaster on the night. A calendar of junior friendlies has now been organised for the upcoming months. The days that there are no friendlies, there will still be club matchplay. All of the friendlies and match play will take place in Sunday’s Well and we would strongly encourage our juniors to play as it is an excellent way to get practice, meet other players while having some fun. 42 people took part in this year’s Christmas Cracker event which was held in the club on the morning of the 27th of December. It was great to see the club buzzing during the holiday season. A huge thank you must go to Vice Captain, Donal Johnson and to Paul O’Callaghan for doing all the organising while the captain skipped off on holidays! The finals of our new Super Seniors event took place on December 11th, there was some superb tennis and followed by festive lunch. Over the next few days, Sunday’s Well will play host to some of the World’s top Squash players The excitement is building to this weekend’s Neilly Sull Squash Open. Derval O’ Rourke was delighted to visit the Club recently for a photo shoot to launch this year’s tournament. The annual ladies Christmas lunch took place yesterday December 5th, approximately 40 members attended to celebrate the festive season in the company of their tennis friends. Brook Inn provided a delicious Christmas Dinner and a presentation was made to Greg Morris as a thank you for all his work during the year. This was an organized free fun night for members & guests. Great fun was had by all that attended the event with some very surprising & unexpected talent surfacing on the night with renditions of well-known artists songs. Everybody made a great effort with their themed costumes that added to the occasion. Social Committee will be developing this themed fun night in next years Social calendar watch this space! Yesterday, we had a visit from the Rafa Nadal Academy who came to the Club to give a few coaching sessions to members of all ages. We wish to thank the Academy for their visit, a massive thank you also to Ger, all the parents and players of all ages for their help and support of the event. Well done to our U14 team who won the Junior Cup Final yesterday in St Anne’s, beating Killaloe 5-0.
