A massive well done must go to Ron O’Mahony, Shane McCarthy, Grace Reidy and Sandra Higgins who are competed in the Grade 2 Summer Cup finals in Rushbrooke. The team were facing off against Rushbrooke and after 4 matches it was 2-2 all. The Mens Doubles was the decider and Ron and Shane came back from 5-2 in the third to win the tournament. Well done to all !
On September 6th and 7th, Sunday’s Well was delighted to host the Junior Veteran’s Interprovincial Event. The level of tennis throughout the weekend was outstanding and Sunday’s Well was well represented on all teams. Leinster won the title overall but Munster did have wins in the Ladies 35+ 40+ and Men’s 45+events, in particular well done to Abby Hayes, Mary Claire McCarthy, Deirdre Swinburne who were all part of these winning teams.

On August 31st, Sundays Well welcomed the Irish Evergreens for a great weekend of tennis and social activities. 12 members of the Evergreens arrived came down on Friday and were welcomed by the Social Committee. This was followed on Saturday morning with some great tennis in beautiful sunshine. Thanks must go to Martin Leahy and the Social Committee for their organisation.
The finals of the Davy Munster Junior open championships were concluded in superb conditions at the Sundays Well Boating and Tennis Club, Cork on Saturday 6th July. Over 7 days over 310 boys and girls in age groups from as young as under 8 right through to under 18 competed in this Category 1 Irish Junior Tennis tournament and many of the country’s top juniors from all four provinces and further afar battled in blistering sunshine for the main titles. As many of you know the Insight Insurance Munster Senior Open was held at the beginning of June. It was a busy week with 30 events, 481 players but it all went very smoothly! Well done to all our players who took part and congratulations to our finalists and winners. The results are available here A very big thank you to the tournament committee, all our sponsors particularly Insight Insurance and all the volunteers (over 60 of you!) who contributed time to help in the office, umpire matches, be ball boys/girls.
The annual Spring Clean took place on Sunday 28th April, a huge thank you must go to all the members who volunteered their time to help. The club is looking super as a result. This weekend we welcomed 12 visitors from Pewsey LTC, Wiltshire, UK. The Tennis & Social Committees organised events to coincide with this visit over the weekend, starting with a ‘Meet & Greet’ on Friday night in the River Lee hotel. Tennis matches were organised for Saturday & Sunday mornings and the visitors were guests at the presentation dinner for the Internal Winter League & Ladder Cup finals on Saturday night. The finals of the Internal Winter League and Ladder Cup took place last weekend (Saturday 13th April). This was followed by the Ladder Cup dinner at which the prizes were presented and was attended by over 80 members and guests. Sundays Well Squash Club Championship commenced on Monday 25th March and finished on April 13. 20 players competed across 3 sections and there were social drinks held on the club on Finals Night. Last weekend (29th-31st March) saw the completion of the Club’s first major event for 2019, the Munster Open Veterans Tournament.Over 165 players from all over the country participated in 28 events from over 35 to over 70 age categories. This was a bigger entry than in 2018. We saw some fantastic tennis from some of the county’s top Veteran tennis players and which was aided in no small part by brilliant sunshine throughout the weekend. On Sunday 31st of March, Sunday’s Well had two teams playing in the Civil Service Cup, an annual interclub event which is held in Douglas Tennis Club. The teams were made up of Robert Murphy, Dermot Carbery, Ann Humphries and Emma Crowley Claire Fennell, Maria Crowley, Hugh Nagle and Ed Donovan Claire’s team reached the semis but were unfortunately beaten by the eventual winners Monkstown.
