This was an organized free fun night for members & guests. Great fun was had by all that attended the event with some very surprising & unexpected talent surfacing on the night with renditions of well-known artists songs. Everybody made a great effort with their themed costumes that added to the occasion. Social Committee will be developing this themed fun night in next years Social calendar watch this space! Yesterday, we had a visit from the Rafa Nadal Academy who came to the Club to give a few coaching sessions to members of all ages. We wish to thank the Academy for their visit, a massive thank you also to Ger, all the parents and players of all ages for their help and support of the event. Well done to our U14 team who won the Junior Cup Final yesterday in St Anne’s, beating Killaloe 5-0. From October 12th-14th Sunday’s Well was delighted to host the 34th William Bradley & Co National (Veterans) Close. The competition was run by Munster Branch was a success despite some pretty nasty weather on Saturday, thankfully the finals day on Sunday proved to be a much sunnier day. Huge congratulations to our Coaching Coordinator Ger Flynn who today was named Munster Coach of the Year. Ger is a level 3 coach and a Tennis Ireland Tutor with over 30 years coaching experience. As a player, she represented Munster at all levels and was also part of an Irish Veterans team. She has been coach and non-playing captain to numerous Munster and Irish Junior teams, travelling around Europe with the National Junior squads over a 10-year period. The Insight Senior Close Week took place between September 23rd – 29th and was again well attended with over 100 entries. The Close Week Barbecue was well supported with over 80 people in attendence. The first round 1 of the new Super Seniors American Tournament took place on September 11th. The event is a new event which was organised by Vice Captain Donal Johnson and a subcommittee. The event is due to take place every second Tuesday of the month at 10:15-12:00. It consists of short competitive tennis games followed by morning coffee. Well done to Donal Johnson, Stuart Ahern, Niall O’Sullivan and Chris McCusker who reached the Summer Cup Finals in Nenagh on September 8th. Unfortunately, they were beaten 3-1 by a very strong Larkspur team in the finals but there is no doubt they did amazingly well to get to the finals and have done the club very proud.
A massive congratulations to all our members who have recently been selected to play for Munster in the Senior and Junior Interprovincial Championships. In conjunction with Wimbledon’s mens’ finals day, the social committee organised a Wimbledon Tea Party. The tennis was old style with some superb traditional outfits and the tea and cakes were delicious!
