The annual ladies Christmas lunch took place on December 8th, approximately 50 members attended to celebrate the festive season. A delicious lunch was provided by Brook Inn and a presentation was made to Greg Morris as a thank you for all his work during the year.

Junior Close 2017
At the end of October, the club held the Junior Close, approximately 60 kids took part over the few days and while the weather was mixed we saw some excellent tennis. Well done to all who took part!
American Tournament Finals
The American Tournament which ran monthly from April – October was again a big success, we had 82 people take part over the 6 months and every month bar one was fully booked. The finals of the American Tournament took place on October 27th, Joe O’Mahony and Alex Daly were the overall winners. The tournament was backed with sponsorship from Cantor Fitzgerald and Human+Kind and the good news is that Human+Kind have already agreed to sponsor it again next year.
Irish Player Fundraiser
Congratulations to Marie Duffy and Anne McCarthy who were recently selected to represent Ireland at the World Supersenior Championships in Miami. A fundraiser was held in the club for their trip and it proved to be a very popular night.
Junior Cup Finals 2017
On October 15th, three Sunday’s Well Junior teams travelled to the Catholic Institute to play in the Junior Cup Finals. The U12, U14 and U16 teams all played in the finals of their respective groups. It was great to see Sunday’s Well so well represented at this level. The U12 and U16 teams both went on to win the competitions outright. Well done to all who took part!
Family Fun Day 2017
Another successful Family Fun Day was held on the 1st October. We had over 180 members take part in lots of fun activities and games. There was also a BBQ and even some yummy pancakes!
Insight Senior Close
Insight Senior Close week took place between 24th-30th September 2017. Approximately, 90 members took part in 13 events over the 5 day period. The weather was testing at times during the week cause some matches to be rescheduled but the week finished on Saturday despite the changes. Winners and runners-up were given Club gear as prizes for the first time.
Ballinlough Friendly
On September 8th, a group from Ballinlough Tennis Club visited Sunday’s Well for some friendly tennis and food. It was lots of fun and we look forward to another visit in due course. Thanks to Martin Hurley, Jean Downeyand Jacqui O’Mahony of Ballinlough for organising the event.
Summer Cup Finals
Sunday’s Well was asked to host these at relatively short notice when St Anne’s was unable to do so. I am very happy to say that we were able to oblige and that we also had two teams playing on the day. Congratulations go to our Grade 4 mens’ team and our Grade 6 ladies who both won their respective events in a nail-biting superdoubles.
Barbadian Friendly
We recently hosted a visiting tennis team from Barbados Yacht Club, the event was very well attended and thankfully on this occasion the weather behaved! The day was a made up of mixed friendly games and afternoon tea and it was very enjoyable.
Davy Munster Junior Open
The biggest club event of the year was the Davy Munster Junior Open. With 42 events and 455 entries it is also one of the biggest Tennis events in Munster, if not the biggest. Sundays Well was well represented in all events and had a number of winners and runners up on finals day. As usual, the open ran extremely smoothly thanks to Marie, Dara, the junior committee and many volunteers. For the first time, we surveyed participants on their views about the tournament and feedback was extremely positive.
Munster Senior Open
The Munster Senior Open was held in June. With 30 events and 420 entries it was a yet again a big undertaking. Dara Carberry again did a wonderful job as tournament director. In 2016, Dara Carberry & Trish Murphy did a considerable amount of work collecting and analysing data about the open. They looked at court time, number of players etc.. This year we were able to apply the lessons learnt from the data analysis and it made for a very smooth open with very few players playing late and…
