Captain's Update July 2022

O'Connors Munster Junior Open 2022

The finals of the O’Connor’s Pharmacy Munster Junior Open Championships were concluded in superb conditions at the weekend. For the previous 7 days over 200 boys and girls in age groups from as young as under 8 right through to under 18 competed in this Category 1 Irish Junior Tennis tournament and many of the country’s top juniors from all four provinces battled in blistering sunshine for the main titles. Munster Senior Open 2022

The Munster Senior Open was held in the club between 9th – 18th June. The club welcomed close to 500 players over the 10 days, and it was fantastic to see the Open return again after 2 years. The standard of tennis was higher than ever and the volunteers and supporter were out in force. Winter League Winners 2022

Sunday’s Well hosted a very exciting and enjoyable finale for Phase II of the Winter League on Sunday, May 15th. We can be particularly proud to have three of our own teams participate in the finals. Unfortunately, Marc’s Grade 5 team lost out in a very close super double but the good news is both Emily’s Grade 3 team won their super doubles and Tara’s Grade 2 team came from 2-0 down to also win in super doubles. 3 Teams Reach Winter League Finals 2022

Last weekend saw a great display of tennis in the club as 6 club teams did battle in the Winter League Semi-Finals. Unfortunately, due to the fact that Grade 3 and Grade 4 teams were playing each other, we were never going to have more than 4 teams in the finals. Three of these teams made it through and the tennis and atmosphere were fantastic. Captain's Update April 2022

Here’s a brief update on what has been a few very busy weeks at our club…. Munster Vets A big thanks to Stephen McCarthy who delivered yet another successful Vets event. We had 198 participants in 44 events, and there were several Sundays Well winners. Well done to everyone involved! Civil Service Cup Well done to Tom Reidy, Ed Donovan, Emily O’Donoghue and Anna Clancy who represented Sundays Well in the Civil Service Cup in Douglas which was held on the 3rd April. Six Teams Reach Winter League Semis

After a very busy weekend of matches, 6 club teams have made it through to the semi finals of the Winter League, as Grade 2s and Grade 3s will now play each other in the semis, which means that the club already has two guaranteed finalists. In further good news, the club has been chosen as the venue for the finals which will be held on Sunday 15th May. Winter League Winners

Well done to our Grade 4 team of Sean O’Malley, Debbie Dunlea, Norma Kerrisk and Niall O’Keeffe who won their Winter League final in Nenagh last week. They were 2-1 down after the first round, so it was fantastic that they pulled it back. It was very well deserved. Thanks also must go to those who travelled to support, lovely to see such club spirit at play.

Neilly Sull Open 2021

Well done to all who took part in the annual Neilly Sull open, as always the level of squash was fantastic. As we all know these things don’t run themselves so a big thank you to Eoin, our squash captain and to Ken O’Keeffe the tournament director for all their work and the final thank you goes to O’Sullivan Brothers DIY who very kindly sponsored the event. Summer Cup Finals 2021

On Sunday 5th September the Summer Cup Finals were held in Rushbrooke. Sunday’s Well had 3 teams in the finals. In the first match of the day, our Grade 6 ladies battled each other in a nail biting final. It was Norma’s team that came through, hard luck to Adrienne’s team who put up a strong fight. The teams were Later on in the day, our Grade 1 Mixed team took on the home team Rushbrooke, they also had a superb win. Well done to all the players concerned.

Summer Cup 2021

We are delighted to say that the 2021 Summer Cup will be going ahead and Sunday’s Well will have 11 teams across the 6 grades. Neilly Sull 2019

An amazing weekend with over 40 players plus 4 professionals competing for honours in the Neilly Sull Open 2019. This has become one of the dates in the squash calendar that everyone looks forward to. Not only to watch the likes of Joel Makin, the world no.12 showcase his effortless skills but to remember our friend and former club member Neil O Sullivan.
