Mr Gordon Exshaw - RIP
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death Gordon Exshaw, former chairman of Sunday’s Well Boating & Tennis Club. Gordon became a member of the club on the urgings of his father, also club chairman in 1933, and proceeded to play a prominent role in club affairs throughout his life. An active tennis and snooker player he was elected to the role of snooker captain in 1972 and the following year became club chairman, a role he filled with distinction. Members' Webinar
In advance of the club re-opening a members’ webinar was held on Sunday 17th May. At the webinar Club Chairman, John O’Sullivan and Club Captain, David Carroll outlined the work done by the club in advance of its re-opening. Sunday's Well is Going Green
In recent months, we have been working to make our club a more environmentally friendly club. LEDs have been put in place in a number of areas around the club and compostable cups and paper straws are have been in the use in the bar for some time. From April, the club will also be removing the use of single-use plastic cups and so it will no longer be providing the plastic cups by the water fountain so members are asked to bring their own reusable bottles and cups going…
Christmas Cracker 2019
The annual Christmas Cracker competition took place on December 27th. The event was again very well attended and players enjoyed some mulled wine and mince pies after their tennis. A number of photos are available on Facebook at this link.
World University Championships 2019
Congratulations to club members, Fiona and Sean O’Callaghan on their huge achievement playing for the Irish team who took bronze in the World University Championships in Grenoble last weekend. Some photos are available on Facebook at this link.
American Tournament Finals 2019
The finals of the American Tournament took place on Saturday 16th November. Congratulations to the overall winner Cathy Walsh and winners on the evening Catherine O’Riordan and Brian Twomey, a huge thank you must also go to Maria Crowley and her committee for organising the tournament during the year. Induchem Club Championships 2019
The Induchem Club Championships took place between September 22nd – 27th and had a record entry of over 150 entries. This year the format changed significantly and the presentation was done in tandem with the dinner on the Friday night. A massive thank you to our sponsors Induchem and also to Emma Crowley & Claire Fennell, tournament directors and all the committees which helped with the organisation to the event. Grade 2 Win Summer Cup Finals 2019
A massive well done must go to Ron O’Mahony, Shane McCarthy, Grace Reidy and Sandra Higgins who are competed in the Grade 2 Summer Cup finals in Rushbrooke. The team were facing off against Rushbrooke and after 4 matches it was 2-2 all. The Mens Doubles was the decider and Ron and Shane came back from 5-2 in the third to win the tournament. Well done to all !
Junior Veterans' Interprovincials 2019
On September 6th and 7th, Sunday’s Well was delighted to host the Junior Veteran’s Interprovincial Event. The level of tennis throughout the weekend was outstanding and Sunday’s Well was well represented on all teams. Leinster won the title overall but Munster did have wins in the Ladies 35+ 40+ and Men’s 45+events, in particular well done to Abby Hayes, Mary Claire McCarthy, Deirdre Swinburne who were all part of these winning teams.
Irish Evergreens Visit 2019
On August 31st, Sundays Well welcomed the Irish Evergreens for a great weekend of tennis and social activities. 12 members of the Evergreens arrived came down on Friday and were welcomed by the Social Committee. This was followed on Saturday morning with some great tennis in beautiful sunshine. Thanks must go to Martin Leahy and the Social Committee for their organisation.
Davy Munster Junior Open 2019
The finals of the Davy Munster Junior open championships were concluded in superb conditions at the Sundays Well Boating and Tennis Club, Cork on Saturday 6th July. Over 7 days over 310 boys and girls in age groups from as young as under 8 right through to under 18 competed in this Category 1 Irish Junior Tennis tournament and many of the country’s top juniors from all four provinces and further afar battled in blistering sunshine for the main titles.
